The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced Thursday they will potentially build a cell tower at Cascades Golf Course.
The department is considering either building the cell tower next to golf cart storage at the course or at the Lion’s Den shelter parking lot at Upper Cascades Park.
Previously, the area had been identified as a possible location for a cell tower, but the idea didn’t come to fruition because Indiana law at the time forbade such construction at less than 500 feet of proximity to residential housing.
A new Indiana law, however, eliminates this restriction.
Horvath Communications approached the Parks and Recreation Department in 2013 with an interest in building a cell tower cite on the north side of Bloomington due to increased demand for cellular services.
If constructed, the tower will be no taller than 190 feet.
The Parks and Recreation Department plans to hold a public information session starting at 7 p.m. March 7 at the Cascades Golf Course Clubhouse to discuss details on the two potential locations. Members of the public are welcome.
