Controversy has arisen over a policy developed last November by Student Life and Learning that makes Greek chapters housed on campus subject to search by the IU police department and other IU safety organizations provided that the organization is given notification of the search at least 24 hours in advance.
The policy will go into effect when housed chapters sign their housing agreement with IU.
The housing agreement, which lists the policy explicitly, was given to Greek houses on Aug. 8, IFC President Ryan Zukerman said. Also included in the agreement is a ban on hard liquor in houses and a requirement for an adult, live-in resident advisor by the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
The search policy has received criticism online in the last few days after a Total Frat Move article arguing the policy infringes on Constitutional rights was spread across social media. The liquor ban has also been criticized online as a policy that might push parties off campus instead of reduce binge and underage drinking.
Zukerman said there will be an informational meeting on Monday about the agreement for chapter presidents.
IFC will wait to comment on the agreement until after the meeting, Zukerman said.
"Our stance right now is that we don't have a stance," Zukerman said.
