Empower IU is the unofficial winner of the 2017 IU Student Association elections, according to a release from the IUSA Election Commission.
Though the ticket received the highest proportion of the 5,762 votes cast, the commission blinded vote tallies before calculating deductions based on any campaign violations which may have occurred. Complaints are due 5 p.m. Saturday.
“We believe that these unofficial results reflect our efforts to facilitate a fair and equal election,” Election Commissioner Eric Langowski said in release. “ We congratulate Empower IU for winning, and thank all the other tickets for their hard work. This was the most competitive election in recent history, which shows that an increasing number of students is becoming interested in IUSA elections.”
Focus for IUSA received the second highest amount of votes cast, followed by Engage with IUSA, IGNITE for IUSA and Psych Up, respectively.
