Postgame:

Down 73-68 with 2 minutes left the Hoosiers rallied and outscored Memphis 10-1 down the stretch to win 78-74.

The winning basket came with 40 seconds left when Indiana’s Whitney Lindsay converted a three point play by hitting a lay-up while being fouled.  After an empty possession by Memphis, senior Jamie Braun sealed the outcome with a free throw with 10 seconds left.

Davis ended up leading the team with 21 points as the Hoosiers improved to 1-0.

A full wrap will be posted on the website later tonight. Also join us Sunday at 2pm for a live blog when IU opens its home season with IUPUI.

Halftime:

The Hoosiers showed their youth in the first half as Memphis was able to trim a 14 point lead down to 43-37 at the half.  Junior guard and captain Jori Davis leads the team in scoring with 14 points while newcomer Hope Elam also is in double figures with 10.  IU managed to shoot 53.1% from the field which is the key to the lead they have built.

Stay tuned for a wrap-up at the end of the game.

Coach Jack

On playing Memphis

“Memphis is a definite team that can challenge us. They challenge you to run our offense and we need to prepare for a great team.”

Women’s basketball team defeats GVSU

By Candice Rohrman | Women's basketball beat writer

Posted at 7:29 pm on November 5, 2009 | Print | Share | Comments (0)

Final Score: 80-70

The Hoosiers defeated Grand Valley State University by 10 points on Thursday night. The Hoosiers had five players in double digits, while GVSU had three players. The Hoosiers were out-rebounded 45 to 34, but forced 20 turnovers in the game. In the second half the Hoosiers only committed 4 more turnovers, improving off the 11 turnovers they committed in the first half.

Halftime update:

The Hoosiers lead by one at the end of the first half, 34-33. Their defense looks much improved from the Lambuth game, but the Hoosiers have had some problems: shooting 9 for 22, and turning the ball over 11 times.

Hope Elam leads the Hoosiers with 11 points. Jasmine Padin leads GVSU in scoring with 14 points.

Pregame Notes:

The IU Women’s basketball team will play its final exhibition game tonight against Division-II foe, Grand Valley State University.

The game should prove rather interesting, as Coach Felisha Legette-Jack has a past with GVSU’s coach Janel Burgess. The two coached together at Michigan State and both share similar coaching philosophies.

Women’s exhibition games are free, so come on out and support your Hoosiers tonight! The tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
