Cane toads were brought to Australia in order to eat the indigenous pests that ruined local crops; unfortunately, they didn't manage to do that. The highly sexual creatures also reproduced without stop, and as the toads had no natural enemies there, they flourished. And flourished. Now they're overrunning the place, causing damage to everything, both man-made and natural -- and sometimes even endangering children and pets. So the frustrated residents are doing everything they can to get back at the toads, including squashing them with cars... at least those citizens who aren't erecting statues in honor of the animals.

Richard Davidson, Trombone

This will be a senior recital.

Bloomington Symphony Orchestra 40th Anniversary Concert

The concert is entitled: 'Exotic Storytelling'.

Football

IU vs. Purdue at home!

Matthew Berntsen, Bassoon

This will be a junior recital.

Mee Jung Ahn, Recorder

This will be a Master's Recital.

East Asian Film Series: "Cape No. 7"

We will meet in Room 101.

The seaside town of Hengchun holds an open audition to find a local band to play at a beach concert featuring a Japanese superstar. Among the disparate locals who join up are a traffic cop, his father, the teen church pianist, and a dorky mechanic. Their nominal leader is Aga, a former rocker who’s bitter from his failure to make it on the Taipei music scene. The highest grossing local film in Taiwan’s history, "Cape No. 7" is now a cultural phenomenon, having won six awards at Taipei’s Golden Horse Awards and best Feature Film at the Hawai’i International Film Festival. Dir. Wei Te-sheng, 2008. In Mandarin with English subtitles. 129 mins.

In the summer of 2006, thousands of players around the globe were training hard to compete in the World Cup...The Homeless World Cup. It began in 2001 as a wild idea to give homeless people a chance to change their lives through an international street soccer competition. Five years later, the annual Homeless World Cup has become an internationally recognized sports competition. 500 homeless players from 48 nations play from such disparate parts of the world as war torn Afghanistan, the slums of Kenya, and the drug rehab clinics of Dublin, Ireland. What they discover is that anything is possible. Proceeds will be donated to the Shalom Community Center, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Martha's House and Stepping Stones, all of which work locally to help those experiencing homelessness and poverty.
