IU alumnus and Bloomington native Deren Abram will release his documentary “ClarkWORLD” on DVD tomorrow. The premier event for the film is in Denver and proceeds will benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Abram’s documentary highlights the life, works and tragic death of his friend and mentor Bob Clark, whose directorial work includes “A Christmas Story.”

According to a press release for “ClarkWORLD”, there is a vital message in the film: “Drunk driving needs to end now.” The film follows the life and times of Clark through the eyes of many of his famous friends, including “Sex and the City”'s Kim Cattrall, Denise Richard, Scott Baio and Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in “A Christmas Story.”

Another film by Abram, “According to Dom,” focuses on the life of comic actor Dom DeLuise, who died in May. It is also recently available on DVD.

C'mon now, YOGAMOM... This is a cool thing. Don't ruin it by spinning it to fit your personal ideology. Sounds like a wonderful tribute. I went to high school with Deren Abram (the director of Clarkworld). I heard he was doing something in Hollywood. I remember he was a really cool guy... nice to everyone. I agree with Jane A... I'd like to see this in a Bloomington theatre too! Plenty of time before Xmas to get it done, I'll bet. How 'bout it, Bloomington?

elaboration on Bob Clark's death: He was killed by an drunk ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT. Does the movie talk about that? Doubt it. Christmas-Story is a great movie. Glad Clark World honors that, but I sure hope this wasn't made with tax dollars from NEA. ~T.S

Why is there a Denver premiere? Is the Indiana alumnus planning an Indiana viewing? I heard about this movie last year and just watched my early release.... and think it is brilliant. This is a wonderfully executed story of a storyteller. Though admittedly I normally am not a fan of documentaries, this was very compelling and a wonderful sentimental journey, just like Bob Clark's legacy film "A Christmas Story". So, Sad. Bob Clark, the director of "A Christmas Story" (and his son) was killed by a drunken-driver. This is a wonderful tribute but still has a quirky edge to it.

I'm the biggest fan of "A Christmas Story" that there is. I got the DVD of Clarkworld from the early release at A-Christmas-Story-House in Cleveland... This movie is awesome! If you're a fan of "A Christmas Story" you MUST SEE this movie... If a documentary can become a Christmas classic, it'll surely be this one. Fraaa-gee-lay!
