IU cross-country team finishes 7th at NCAA Championships

The IU men's cross-country team finished seventh at the NCAA Championships on Monday. It was the team's highest finish since the 1977 team took fourth place.

Junior Andrew Poore earned All-America honors by finishing in 38th place. He posted a 30:29 for the 10k race.

Four Hoosier runners finished in the top 80, with sophomore Andrew Bayer, junior Ben Hubers and sophomore Zachary Mayhew finishing within 10 seconds of each other.
It was the first time since 1987 that the team finished in the top 10.

"I thought they ran really well," IU coach Ron Helmer said in a statement. "They finally understood what it takes in this meet to be successful and executed the race plan to make that happen. They never panicked although we were back a little further than I would've liked early on. They just kept moving. I couldn't be happier."
