Detectives with the Bloomington Police Department are investigating an attempted murder after a homeless man was stabbed at about 1:39 a.m. Sunday on the sidewalk in front of Tracks at 415 E. Kirkwood Ave.
Following the stabbing, BPD Sgt. Dana Cole said the victim, who is in his mid-20s, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and had surgery to remove a kidney.
Cole said that while the victim pushed a shopping cart on the sidewalk, he was approached by two men, who he told police approached him and tried taking a few items in his cart.
When the altercation became physical, one of the suspects stabbed the victim once in the right side of his back.
After being stabbed, the victim crossed the street and walked to Kilroy’s Bar N’ Grill, located at 502 E. Kirkwood Ave., where he asked the staff to alert authorities.
When police arrived, Cole said officers observed a blood spot on the sidewalk.
Police did not recover the weapon used in the stabbing.
Although Cole said police have several leads, no suspects have been apprehended for the alleged attempted murder. The suspects were described as two black males.
