Interfraternity Council men’s rush continues with house tours this Sunday after the initial kick-off event last weekend and house events that took place throughout the week.
About 1,200 potential recruits stopped by Dunn Meadow last Saturday to talk with members of all 31 chapters, IFC Vice President of Recruitment Matthew
Adams said.
The number of recruits in attendance was right on target with what William Kragie, IFC vice president of communications, said he expected.
Each of the fraternities set up a table and had members in attendance to meet potential recruits.
“We always encourage them to speak to as many frats as they can,” Adams said.
Although conversations in Dunn Meadow are usually brief, Adams said, an online system, which all potential recruits register with at the beginning of the year, allows members to search for hopefuls based on their interests, high school and other personal information.
“It allows them to go back and put a face to a name,” Adams said. “And it allows them to invite them for rush events.”
Throughout the past week, the individual houses organized their own rush activities.
“My fraternity – and I’m sure a lot of others had events like this – had a poker night,” said Adams, a member of Sigma Nu. “But the most popular is to have them over to watch a football game and order chicken wings.”
House tours will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
“Students who are rushing are free to go to a frat house, and there will be a brother available to answer any questions,” Adams said.
Kragie said the rush process will wrap up in the next two to three weeks.
Bids will be handed out through next week, Adams said.
Adams described men’s rush as a fairly laid-back event.
“It’s not as pressure-packed as women’s recruitment,” he said, adding it ultimately gives potential recruits a chance to network and get to know fraternity members.
