If you’re leaving town for the summer, after graduation or for any other reason, you’re going to need to get your utilities out of your name. That way, you won’t be responsible for any charges that occur if someone moves in and your name is still on the account. Here’s how to do it.
Water
You’ll have to fill out an end of service form, which is available on the website or in person at the local office. If you fill out the online version, you may scan it and email it or fax it to the location. Depending on where you live, the water will either be shut off, or the service will need to be transferred back into your landlord’s name.

Electric
Getting your electricity disconnected is as easy as calling Duke Energy and speaking to a customer service representative. If you’re leaving for the summer and planning on returning to that address, hold on to your account number and they’ll be able to pull up your account and restore service pretty quickly.

Gas
Just like getting your electricity turned off, you can simply call Vectren Corporation and speak to a customer service agent to disconnect your gas services. Have your service address, account number and date of service ready so they turn it off on the right date and you’re not stranded with cold water before moving out.
