The reaction of Indiana students following the announcement of Coach Knight's dismissal Sunday night was both invigorating and shameful. On one hand, the student body rose as a collective to demand justice for a wrong, to defy the tyranny of a president whose laundry list of recent infractions by Coach Knight was obviously ... contrived... On the other, the night's demonstration gave credence to the idea that college kids will use any excuse to party and get out of control. \nUnder unfortunate circumstances, the IU student body has been afforded the opportunity to come together and stand up for something in which it believes, and it must.\nFor most of your lives, the generations ahead of you have sat in judgment, saying that you have no initiative, that you don't believe in anything. And, for the most part, they have been right. There haven't been too many things worth fighting for for our generation.\nFrom the outpouring of emotion and swift reaction on the Bloomington campus Sunday night, it seems obvious that the consensus is that Coach Knight has been unfairly treated. If that is what you truly feel, don't let one night of hell raising be the only response. Bring yourselves together and with a common voice back a man who has stood for Hoosier pride and tradition for nearly 30 years. Arrange sit-ins, boycott classes, place a moratorium on university apparel and ball games.\nNeil Reed made his voice heard. As did Ron Felling, Kent Harvey, Mark Shaw and now Myles Brand. Indiana students, the pride of our state, the nation is watching you. What are you going to do?
Don't limit outcry to one night
