A project through IU's Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Back Home in Indiana Alliance, recently received a "Best of the Best" award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a press release.\nThe program works to help people with disabilities own homes and was one of 100 programs selected from about 2,800 that were nominated from across the country.\nLast month, HUD secretary Andrew Cuomo spoke at the agency's second annual Best Practices and Technical Assistance Symposium.\n"I salute today's Best Practice winners," the release said. "They're our success stories at using HUD assistance for innovative programs that revitalize communities and bring new opportunities to American families. By honoring their efforts, we help communities across the nation learn from each other."\nThe award given to the Back Home in Indiana Alliance was given because of the group's effort to increase home ownership opportunities for people with disabilities in the United States, according to the press release.
