Students can register to vote today in IMU

In an effort to encourage student participation in November's presidential election, a voter registration drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Union Commons Desk of the Indiana Memorial Union. The Indiana Israel Public Affairs Committee, College Republicans and College Democrats are sponsoring the drive.\nRegistration will enable students and nonstudents to vote in all races in the general election Nov. 7. The last day to register is Oct. 9.\nTo meet the Indiana voter requirements, one must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the precinct in which he or she registers for at least 30 days before the next election, at least 18 years old on election day and not be in jail for a criminal conviction. \nAccording to statistics from voter.com, the 1998 congressional elections had a 36 percent voter turnout. The addresses for Vice President Al Gore's and Texas Gov. George W. Bush's Web sites respectively are algore2000.com and georgewbush.com.
