Five members of the women's golf team will travel to California with coach Sam Carmichael this weekend to compete in the Stanford Invitational.\nThe four lowest scores for each team count toward scoring in the 54-hole tournament, which will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday.\nCarmichael's five golfers -- freshmen Ambry Bishop and Danah Ford, sophomore Adrienne Graessle, junior Tiffany Fisher and senior Natalie Tucker -- will face plenty of competition at the tournament; 17 other teams are competing, and 10 of them are ranked in the MasterCard Collegiate rankings.\nTucker leads IU into the invitational, having led the team in each of its three tournaments thus far. She ranks first in the Midwest in the MasterCard regional rankings.\nCarmichael said she hopes Tucker and her teammates will perform well this weekend.\n"I hope we can go out to California and have a good tournament," Carmichael said. "We need to play to our potential. I don\'t think we have done that yet this season.\"\nThe men's and women's swimming and diving teams open their seasons today at IU's Counsilman and Billingsley Aquatic Center. Both the men and women face Evansville in their first meet of the season.\nBoth teams boast strong squads, as each return swimmers who participated in the Olympic Trials in August.\nSeniors Don Gold, Joe Trent and Will Bernhardt and sophomore Kevin Euans lead the men's team. All four participated in the Olympic trials.\nGold, an All-Big Ten selection last season, leads the team in sprints. He posted the fastest times last season in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter free styles.\nSenior Jenn Cristy leads the women's team, coming off an All-American season. Cristy leads the team in sprints and is one of 24 returning letter winners.\nMatching Cristy's success on the diving team is junior Sara Reiling. Reiling, who competed for the U.S. in the 2000 Summer Olympics, was Big Ten Diver of the Year and three-meter national champion last season.\nJeff Huber coached Reiling and the women's team to a national championship last season, and he did the same with the men. Huber was named Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season for his accomplishments.\nHis men's team lost two seniors to graduation but has gained three freshmen this season.\n"We are excited about these new guys coming up," Huber said. "They have a lot of talent and a lot of experience for being right out of high school. We just need to match their character, intensity and leadership with some of our past divers."
