The women's field hockey team finished its first regular varsity season with a 9-0 loss to Michigan State (11-8, 2-5 Big Ten) Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. \nThe Spartans began to score one minute into the game and continued to challenge IU's defense throughout the game. The Hoosiers fell to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the Big Ten.\nMichigan State scored three goals in the game's first four minutes. The Hoosier defense held the Spartans scoreless for the next 15 minutes until Michigan State's leading scorer, junior forward Bridget Cooper, netted her 10th goal of the season. \nCooper earned a hat trick in the game. Freshman midfielder Sophie Rosmalen, junior forward Maureen Halstead and sophomore midfielder Cynthia Martin notched goals for the Spartans.\nIU goalkeepers had another tough game, as they faced 26 shots and 20 penalty corners. Senior Alexandra Kaufman started the game for the Hoosiers and earned six saves in the first half. Sophomore Molly Pulkrabek came in for the second half and posted six saves.\nThe Hoosiers will head to the Big Ten Tournament Nov. 3-5 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
