Fundraiser to support Behrmans

The Run for the Endzone was organized five years ago by the Division of Recreational Sports to encourage students to focus on health and fitness through running and walking.\nThis year's event, which begins and ends at the endzones of Memorial Stadium and is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., holds special significance. The event has been renamed the Jill Behrman Run for the Endzone in honor of 19-year-old sophomore Jill Behrman, daughter of Eric and Marilyn Behrman, who disappeared May 31 while riding her bicycle on the outskirts of Bloomington.\nWhile the event will still focus on health and fitness, participants will be able to contribute to the Jill Behrman Fund, a $50,000 reward being offered for any new information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance. Those attending can also learn personal safety measures and support federal legislation to expand resources for missing young people.\n"Every year, we look forward to presenting this 5K Run/Walk to the Indiana University and Bloomington communities," said Chris Geary, assistant program director of Special Events for the IU Division of Recreational Sports, in a press release. "This year's event, however, has special meaning for us and for IU ... This run/walk is always rewarding because people at all fitness levels enjoy participating. But this year we also add a deeper concern for one of our own student employees and IU family member, Jill Behrman. We want to make personal safety an issue for everyone."\nEric and Marilyn Behrman have been helping to organize the event. Eric said the event will help the community come together in support of his daughter.\n"The most important thing is continuing to keep Jill in our thoughts and actions and the Jill Behrman Run for the End Zone will do both," Behrman said in a press release.\nThose who are not already registered for the event can still do so Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $18 for those running the 5K and $13 for those walking the 5K or doing the one-mile family walk. The fee includes a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt and a warm-up session at 9:45 a.m., led by professional fitness leaders from the Division of Recreational Sports Fitness/Wellness staff. Children under 10 can walk for free but will not receive a T-shirt.
