Interview Tips

The following are some interview tips from Amy Cornell and Chris Lucas.\n

  • Be prepared: Read the job description or advertisement carefully for potential questions. \n
  • Be honest with yourself and the \nemployer: First, do you really want the job? Second, are you really qualified to do it?\n
  • Be certain that you understand the questions you are being asked: Not answering the question is worse than giving the "wrong" answer.\n
  • Be yourself: Somewhat nervous applicants are normally better hires than overly confident applicants. \n
  • Be ready to answer the question, "Why do you want to work here?": If compensation or the apparent ease of the position are the only honest answers, apply for a different job.\n
  • Be interested enough to ask questions of your own: Your interest in the nature of the work, the work environment and the employers expectations should find a voice in the selection process and the interview is normally your first opportunity.\n
  • Be prompt: Being on time for an interview is a good sign you're responsible enough to arrive on time for your job.\n
  • Be flexible: A person who puts major restrictions on his or her schedule is less likely to get hired. \n
