Kristine W's talent needs to be 'Stronger'

When reviewing an album like Kristine W's Stronger, one must solely concentrate on lyrics and looks. The music, a disgusting blend of pop and dance beats, is a non-factor. Kristine W has a good voice going for her, but whatever DJ is mixing her music should be dragged out of the studio and beaten with a large blunt object.

Kristine W
Stronger
RCA Records

Kristine W is a babe, so at least she has that. Buy this album for the liner notes and nothing else. The cover, a black and white mug shot, screams "I'm hot, buy me." Hundreds of horny teenage boys will surely rush to the stores to get a CD with Kristine W's face on it. Hey, that's what made Britney Spears so big. From now on, this is what pop albums should be critiqued on; they've turned into a beauty contest and nothing more. Stronger tries, not really that hard though, to be a dance album. "Stronger" and "Lovin' You" are get-on-the-dance-floor-and-grind type songs. Those first two tracks give the album promise and hope. But then it goes into "If Only You Knew," which sounds like a rejected Mariah Carey track. And it's all downhill from there. Dance songs aren't supposed to have very intelligent lyrics. Remember the "Macerena?" But when there's very little along the lines of danceable material, Stronger needs something to save it. Sadly, there's nothing on here that accomplishes that. "My love is / My love is / My love is stronger, stronger," she sings. One day there will be a revolution; pop and dance artists will actually start putting thought into their music. That revolution is probably a long way away. It's not likely that a DJ is going to take a track straight from this album to play in a club. Boring patrons doesn't make good business. Stronger is begging to be remixed. Kristine W has a good voice but the music needs serious work. Maybe its got a chance to be one of those work-out albums in the gym, but don't bet on it.
