Doubles team advances to semis\nThe men's tennis doubles team of junior Rahman Smiley and senior Ricardo Jordan advanced to the semifinal round of the ITA Region IV Championships after posting two wins Sunday.\nIn the day's first match, Jordan and Smiley defeated Minnesota's Thomas Haug and Chris Wettengel, 8-6. In quarterfinal action, the Hoosiers overcame DePaul's Maciek Jozwiak and Robert Kurek, 8-5.\nWith the two wins, the pair reaches today's semifinal action, where they challenge No. 2 seed Graydon Oliver and Amer Delic of Illinois. The Hoosier doubles team is the only unseeded team remaining in the tournament.\nCrew finishes 2nd at Head of the Elk\nIU and Notre Dame dominated the Head of the Elk on the St. Joseph River in Elkhart Sunday.\nThe Hoosiers finished second behind the Fighting Irish in the varsity four A, varsity four B and varsity eight A. The lead varsity eight A boat came in at 13:27 with Indiana five seconds behind.\nThe Hoosier double finished fifth at the regatta. The novice four boat took 10th place in a varsity event.\nSwimming team falls in dual meet\nThe men's swimming and diving team fell Saturday to Northwestern and Minnesota in a double dual meet in Evanston, Ill. The Golden Gophers defeated the Hoosiers 91-49, while the Wildcats edged IU 79-61.\nSenior diver Tom Davidson provided IU's only win as he took first place in the 1-meter springboard event with 341.45 points. He finished second on the 3-meter springboard with 272.30 points. \nSenior freestyler Don Gold turned in two second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle and a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle.\nIn both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races, senior Joe Trent collected two second-place finishes. He placed 13th in the 400 individual medley.
