Indiana House Majority Leader Mark Kruzan, R-Bloomington, is running unopposed in his re-election bid for House District 61. Here are his responses to questions the IDS posed:\n1. What are your top three goals for your next term as state legislator?\nEducation funding at all levels, child welfare and responsible management of the state budget are my priorities. I strongly believe IU staff and faculty pay and keeping tuition low must be viewed as an investment in Indiana's future.\n2. What would you plan to do to help improve education in Indiana?\nThe top priority for state government should always be education funding at all levels. Too often "education" is spoken of in terms of K-12. Early childhood learning and higher education must be included in all efforts to increase education funding.\n3. How do you feel about the approval of RU-486? Would you approve funding for its distribution by public health services?\nRU-486 should be treated like any other FDA-approved drug.\n4. What is your position on the I-69 project?\nI oppose the proposed new terrain route. If the project is to become a reality, it should use as much existing roadway as possible so property rights and the environment are preserved and tax money isn't wasted.\n5. What is your position on state tax cuts?\nReasonable tax cuts are possible so long as they do not jeopardize needs of the state such as school and university funding. I'm especially concerned about the impact of property taxes on senior citizens and others on fixed incomes.
