I am writing about the skateboarding ordinance recently passed by the Bloomington Common Council. I would like to remark that this is something that perhaps IU should consider also. I am a recently graduated IU alumna, and I passed by countless limestone curbs and low walls last year on campus that had been ruined by the ugly skid marks left by skateboarders. \nThe young people leaving these marks dirtied and ruined many walkways with their activity, with little or no consideration for those who had to look at the damage. I don't know if skateboarding on campus is prohibited, but if it is, the policy is certainly not being enforced. \nI'm sure I don't understand the value of this hobby that everyone seems to grow out of eventually, but I would appreciate it if skateboarders would please think a bit about what they are doing and whose property they damage when they do their thing. Please take your activity where you do the least harm -- your homes. You don't pay to repair the damage you leave when you skateboard at IU, but maybe you should.\nHeather Gaskins\nAlumna
