Apocalypse Now

The war movie to end all war movies, "Apocalypse Now" is Francis Ford Coppola's love letter to the trials of the Vietnam War on its soldiers. The movie follows Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) on his mission to "Terminate with extreme prejudice" the renegade military outpost commanded by the mysterious and insane Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando).\nThe DVD version of this film is nothing less than fantastic. Shown in its original form without credits, the film would be, for first-time viewers, nothing short of an amazing cinematic experience. Although the movie is 21 years old, the colors and sound seem to explode off the television screen and into the viewer's home. \nAlso included in the DVD version is commentary by Coppola, including his diary on the making of "Apocalypse Now" and the setbacks that pushed a six-week shoot into more than a two-year process. Viewers can watch the blowing up of Col. Kurtz's camp, which was done to restore the area of the Philippines where the film was set to its original condition. \nThis version of "Apocalypse Now" is definitely worth buying, or at least renting. If nothing else, the film stands as a testament to the horrors of the Vietnam War and Coppola's amazing direction.
