The Deric Rush Band is further proof of the range and depth of the Bloomington music scene. The blues-mixed-with-classic-rock sound is a great listen every time. The music is new, but it has the awesome, true feeling most often associated with the rockers of days past.

DRB is a band that Indiana truly can call its own. Both Rush and bassist Dan Hunt are graduates of the Vincennes University School of Music. Percussionist John Gray is from Bloomington's very own IU School of Music. The music these three men create is not only exciting and catchy but also intelligent and creative.
Wood and Steel is an exciting collection of hard-hitting rock songs, slower but still up-tempo blues tracks and even a few instrumentals of both varieties. What stays consistent is that each track gives guitarist and lead vocalist Rush a chance to show off his chops.
Rush's guitar sound can be compared to many of the greats. It's a little Van Halen with a touch of Satriani to make a flavor Rush can call his own. All throughout Wood and Steel Rush shines, be it with a monster-rock beat on "Take a Ride" or a long blues solo on "Slow Burnin'."
"Stevie Roy," a track where Rush expresses his childhood desire to be the aforementioned character, has a touch of country to it. Throughout the album, DRB shows off its amazing versatility in playing a variety of styles.
While it might seem from its classic style that Wood and Steel is an album from 20 years ago, that is certainly not the case. Songs like "Lunchtime Blues" and "Straight From Love" prove that DRB's style can meld well with today's modern music scene while still keeping their sound intact.
Deric Rush Band is another strong local band that Bloomington is lucky to have around. The nostalgic '70s rock sound is something that the current scene lacks, but DRB shows that it still has its place in modern music.
