Hoosier advances to quarterfinals

In its first action since October, the men's tennis team saw some success at the Big Ten Singles Championships last weekend at Ann Arbor, Mich.\nSenior Milan Rakvica was the Hoosiers' strongest showing, as he won each of his first three rounds in straight sets. He was eliminated in the tournament's quarterfinal by the No. 7 seed from Illinois, Philip Stolt (2-6, 3-6).\nJunior Rahman Smiley and freshman Bernard Tsepelman also won their first round matches. Smiley upset No. 9 seed Jorge Duenas of Minnesota 6-3, 6-4 while Tsepelman outlasted Iowa's Hunter Skogman 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.\nPurdue's senior Jason Marshall walked away with the tournament title, as he beat top-seeded Harsh Mankad of Minnesota 6-1, 6-3.\nThe Hoosiers' next match will be Jan. 25 at Notre Dame.
