In a meet that started with a ceremony to honor the seniors of the IU men's swimming and diving team and ended in a loss, it was a freshman who stole the show. \nOn Senior Day Saturday, freshman Claes Andersson won both of his single events and proved to be an important part of the 400-yard freestyle relay. Regardless of Andersson's performance, IU fell to Michigan 132-110.\nAndersson, in his first collegiate meet, was able to climb from the pool victorious in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard free. Andersson also managed to help ensure victory for the 400-yard freestyle relay. \n"This was his first meet," coach Kris Kirchner said. "We would have loved to have him at Ohio State, but he was sick. He's very, very talented, and he's very fast. It's fun to have him; he helps a lot."\nBeyond the three events that Andersson swam in, IU was unable to finish first in any swimming event. But IU was able to win in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Senior Tom Davidson won the 1-meter, while freshman Marc Carlton was able to beat his teammate to capture the 3-meter victory.\n"Tom had moments of brilliance out there. Marc did a really nice job as well," said Jeff Huber, the men's diving coach. "By not going to Purdue next weekend, we have three weeks to get ready for the Big Tens, to get the consistency we are looking for."\nDespite the highlights, Saturday's meet was a loss-- a loss that puts IU's record at 2-5, going 0-4 in the Big Ten. The idea of a losing meet with some great highlights has been the story for IU all season long. But Kirchner said it looks as though things are beginning to come together.\n"We had a lot of good races; we swam very well in a lot of areas," Kirchner said. "It comes down to the same formula-- to be a competitive top team, you have to have everybody do the same thing all at once. \n"We're trying to put it all together, and it's showing signs of coming all together"
