U.S. Figure Skating Championships \n(4 p.m., 9 p.m. ABC)\nThe men's and women's dance finals air in the afternoon and the women's and pairs in the evening, with all the athletes competing at Boston's Fleet Center. In the men's competiton, five-time U.S. champion Todd Eldridge will compete against two-time U.S. champion Michael Weiss and last year's silver medalist Timothy Goebel, who is one of only a few men's competitors to master a quadruple jump. The top competitors in the women's competition are four-time champion Michelle Kwan and last year's silver and bronze medalists Sasha Cohen and Sara Hughes.\n"The X-Files" (9 p.m. Fox)\nAn importer-exporter from Minnesota is found dead and very bloody in a D.C. hotel room, 20 minutes after checking in after a trip to India. The cause of death is unknown and Doggett (Robert Patrick) finds fingerprints suggesting a child was there. Scully's (Gillian Anderson) performs an autopsy that suggests far more: something appears to have exited the man's body, and the body was in India at the time of death. The investigation leads the agents to consultant Chuck Burks (Bill Dow), who says the suspect is virtually unstoppable.\nPerfectly Mary \n(beginning at 8 p.m., TV Land)\n"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" marks its TV Land premiere with a five-day, 40-episode marathon. The 1970-77 series is about a career woman trying to make it on her own in Minneapolis. Highlights of the showcase include "Love is All Around" (the pilot), and "Chuckles Bites the Dust," ranked number one on TV Guide's list of the 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time."\n"Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" \n(8 p.m. WB)\nThe Watcher's Council threatens to deport Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) if Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) fails an arduous test of her slaying skills. They also have crucial information about Glory (guest star Clare Kramer). Unfortunately, the council is less-than-eager to share this information.\n"The West Wing" (9 p.m. NBC)\nLeo (John Spencer) tries to convince President Bartlet (Martin Sheen) to approve a pricey missile defense system; C.J. (Allison Janney) attempts to dissuade a comic (guest star Rocky Carroll) from performing at an annual dinner. Roger Rees returns as the eccentric Lord John Marbury, a friend of the president and one of Leo's least favorite people.\n"Primetime" (10 p.m. ABC)\nIn March 1999, Dr. Jerri Nielsen, the only physician on a research base at the South Pole, diagnosed herself as having breast cancer. Due to extreme winter weather conditions and constant darkness, Nielsen could not be evacuated for several months. Nielsen shows a video of her experience. Nielsen's parents, the Indiana doctor who coached her through the illness, the 41 others at the base with Nielsen and the Air National Guard team who rescued her are also interviewed for the report.
