Campus needs improvement

The decision to run in the IU Student Association election is not one to be entered into selfishly, nor is it to be taken lightly. There must be a selfless commitment to serving the student body and a clear attempt to use the power of IUSA to accomplish practical goals to improve student life and the campus as a whole. \nSupernova was created with these goals in mind. Supernova has developed a living platform, and we will not ignore an idea if it is not our own. Our platform is divided into four main issues: campus improvements, unification, campus pride and technology improvements. \nWe believe communication is essential to effective governing. If elected, Supernova will increase communication between IUSA and other student groups. Supernova will work with larger student organizations by having more collaborative programming events; we will help smaller student groups by creating a "hot sheet" so they can advertise their events in the IDS at the expense of IUSA. \nWe would also like to investigate the ATM situation on campus and see if we can provide cheaper and more accessible banking on campus. We believe having more e-mail terminals and laptop portals in the academic buildings will benefit the student community. Supernova would like to bring back siblings weekend and improve tailgating by inviting local venders. \nWe want to make sure the traditions of old are allowed to continue today, and we will pledge our support to the governing bodies of the greek community and residence halls to ensure their traditions are maintained. Supernova will also advocate fiscal responsibility on campus, later hours for some academic buildings and music practice rooms, and quarter machines in dorm laundry rooms. \nOur issues are achievable by IUSA. We will not deceive the students by guaranteeing less tuition, cheaper parking tickets and other such concerns that are outside of IUSA's control. Supernova is dedicated to making an impact and is focused on real issues and real solutions for IU. \nMany of our candidates have been active at IU and are not starting now in a convenient attempt to garner votes. They have served their fellow students in other capacities and now want to reinvigorate your student government by bringing their passions and convictions to Congress. \nWe have found students who want the chance to serve and see IUSA and the Supernova ticket as the best outlet to make a positive impact on this campus. Supernova has made a conscious effort to bring in new students, while retaining the experience and knowledge of individuals who are already involved with the organization. By complimenting experienced incumbents with fresh faces and ideas, we believe Supernova has put together the most capable slate of Congressional candidates. We believe it is important to mix new with old, for without new ideas and experiences, things become stagnant and without experience, valuable knowledge is lost and some long-term issues can be abandoned. \nI believe I can speak for my fellow Supernova executive and congressional candidates when I say this last month of campaigning has been an exciting and gratifying experience for us. In the past four weeks, we have visited dozens of student groups, fraternities, sororities and residence hall governments. We have experienced first hand the greatness of this University and, if elected, we will continue to communicate. \nWe are not running only to get elected; we are running to continue the progress IUSA has made in recent years and, more importantly, we are running to serve you, the student body.
