Coyote Ugly

Shooting stars

If only the Academy would reward an Oscar for an actress's ability to wear tight pants and dance on top of a bar, the women of "Coyote Ugly" could all be nominated.\nSeeing the film's trailer, one might think that the entire movie is just about sexy women bartending and getting crazy inside a New York City watering hole. Well it's not. The movie stars Piper Perabo as Violet, who leaves home to move to New York to become a famous songwriter but winds up working at Coyote Ugly. If this movie were just about hot girls partying in a bar it would be a decent movie, but it's not about this. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer ruins the film with a bad plot. But the DVD version saves the movie from being a complete waste.\nOn most DVDs, the deleted scenes are not good, and viewers should be glad they were deleted. "Coyote's" missing scenes are some of the best scenes in the movie and help explain the plot.\nThere is a brief audio commentary with Bruckheimer that dissects only five scenes. The entire movie commentary is from the Coyotes themselves. Not many DVDs have commentary with just the actors; "Coyote Ugly" shows why. The five women basically just tell stories about themselves and do not show any insight into the movie. The worst thing is Tyra Banks (Zoe) showing how annoying she really is by cheering every time she appears on screen and telling stories that go nowhere.\nSome extra features include the LeAnn Rimes music video and a brief documentary called "Coyote 101" showing how much training the girls endured to learn how to dance seductively and spin bottles like Tom Cruise in "Cocktail."\nThe best part of the DVD is the chapter selections. Specifically because one can skip to Chapter 20, "The Water Scene." If this scene lasted for the entire hour and a half and skipped the entire crappy plot, "Coyote Ugly" might just be nominated for an Oscar.\nOr at least a Golden Globe.
