Two IU records were broken and an athlete automatically qualified for the indoor NCAA championships as the women's track and field team won the United States Track Coaches Association Collegiate Invitational with 102.33 points against 11 teams this weekend in University Park, Pa.\nSophomore Danielle Carruthers broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12 seconds, which automatically qualifies her for NCAAs. She placed second behind Donica Merriman of Ohio State, who ran in 8.03 seconds. \nSenior Lorraine Dunlop set the other IU record with a winning time of 7.31 in the 60-meter dash. Dunlop's time is one-hundredth of a second off automatic NCAA qualification.\nThe Hoosiers outdistanced second-place Penn State by 10.33 points. Three other Big Ten schools -- Wisconsin (fourth), Michigan (fifth) and Ohio State (sixth) -- also competed. IU won three of 16 events, including the 60-meter dash, 400-meter dash and long jump.\n"I am very pleased and happy for the girls," coach Randy Heisler said. "We didn't always get the lane we preferred, and we were at a disadvantage in some situations. I told the girls at the end that nothing pleases me more about winning than winning when someone's trying to get you beat."\nIn the 400-meter dash, junior Tia Trent won with a career-best and NCAA-provisional-qualifying time of 54.34. The time is the second-best in IU history, behind Adriane Diamond in 1986. Trent has won every 400-meter race she has competed in this season. \nSophomores Tandra Foster and Rose Richmond finished first and second in the long jump, respectively. Senior Jennifer Brown finished second behind Deshaya Williams of Penn State in the shot put with an NCAA-provisional-qualifying-mark of 15.15 meters. Brown also placed third in the weight throw.\nThe Hoosiers tallied 15 points in the 200-meter dash, as sophomore Rachelle Boone ran a career-best indoor time of 24.11 seconds to place third. Carruthers finished fourth in 24.17 and Dunlop took fifth place in 24.35. \nIn the pole vault, senior Angela McGregor placed fourth with a clearance of 3.51 meters. The Hoosiers' 400-meter relay team took third place in 3:45.37 while their distance medley relay team placed fourth.
