Three members of the women's track and field team earned All-American honors at the NCAA indoor championships March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark. IU tied for 14th with Southern Methodist and Louisiana State in team standings, the Hoosiers' highest finish in 11 years.\nSeniors Jenn Brown and Lorraine Dunlop and sophomore Rachelle Boone finished higher than 12th in their events, earning All-American honors. Boone reached All-American status in two events, including a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash and fourth place in the 60-meter dash. \nBoone finished second in the 200-meter dash behind Cydonie Mothersill of Clemson (22.89 seconds). Boone's time of 23.33 seconds is an IU record. \n"After the prelims, I was able to correct my faults," Boone said. "In the finals, I really wanted to concentrate on accelerating on the last curve and the final straightaway. I knew that if I did that, my race would come together."\nIn the 60-meter dash, Dunlop finished eighth with 7.43 seconds and Boone placed fourth with 7.37 seconds. Monique Tubbs of Jacksonville won the event in 7.29 seconds.\nDunlop's best time during the season was 7.31 seconds. She was also the Big Ten champion in the 60-meter dash two weeks ago.\n"I know that she is disappointed where she finished, but I think that we're very optimistic that she can do a lot outdoors," sprints coach Ed Beathea said. "But she is definitely disappointed because she had projected herself in the top three."\nIn the shot put, Brown finished ahead of all Big Ten opponents, placing 11th. Her farthest throw was 15.55 meters. The 2001 championships are Brown's fourth consecutive qualification for indoor NCAAs and her second consecutive earning of All-American status.\n"I think the difference between this championship and those past is that I am more mentally mature," Brown said. "I still don't think I've reached my greatest level, but I definitely took a big step towards it."\nSophomore Danielle Carruthers was seeded third in the 60-meter hurdles, but did not finish her preliminary race March 9. Carrutehrs hit the first hurdle and fell. She was not injured.\nHead coach Randy Heisler said Carruthers was the first out of the blocks, but her step sequence was disrupted because she started faster than usual.\n"It's very depressing because you don't want to bring an athlete like Danielle to a meet like this to have her not make it into the finals," Heisler said. "I feel for her."\nThe Hoosiers now boast 23 All-Americans in indoor track. IU's 14th-place finished is its highest since 1990, when the Hoosiers placed seventh.\n"We came in to score highly, and we did score and we're going to build on that for next year," Heisler said. "This will have nothing but a positive effect on the rest of the team"
