Men's golf team finishes 11th in tournament\nThe men\'s golf team finished tied for 11th place in the rain-shortened Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate this weekend in Pottsboro, Texas.\nThe event was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but heavy rains forced the cancellation of the third round. This is the second consecutive weekend the men\'s golf team has had a tournament shortened because of rain.\nThe team\'s second spring tournament, the El Diablo Intercollegiate, scheduled for March 17-18, was also shortened to a one-day event.\nIU shot a two-round total of 618 at the Dr. Pepper tournament, which tied it with Big Ten rival Iowa for 11th. Purdue won the event with a 584, five shots ahead of second-place Toledo. Michigan State, Minnesota and Wichita State tied for third with scores of 598. Seventeen teams took part in the competition.\nSenior Steve Wheatcroft led IU by placing 14th in the individual standings with a score of 149. Purdue\'s Lee Williamson claimed medallist honors with a score of 142, two shots under par. Also competing for the Hoosiers were sophomore Aldo Jordan (154), junior Rich Thomas (156), sophomore Mike Miller (159) and freshman Mike Castleforte (162). Aldo and Jordan both fired the best one-round scored for IU, with each shooting a 74 on the first day of competition.\nThe Hoosiers next tournament is April 6-7 when the team travels to Huntington, W. Va., to compete in the Marshall Invitational.\nWater polo team wins 2, drops 2 \nThe women's water polo team knocked around Slippery Rock twice this weekend, but was unable to top No. 13 Michigan in two chances, despite going to overtime in both contests.\nThe No. 17 Hoosiers dominated Slippery Rock in both match-ups. The Hoosiers defeated Slippery Rock 13-2 Saturday and 11-3 Sunday. Against the Wolverines, Indiana fell 6-5 Saturday and 10-9 Sunday. \nSenior Kristin Carpenter netted seven goals over the course of the four games, including three in Sunday\'s victory against Slippery Rock. Freshman Melissa Pietras scored four goals on the weekend, three also coming in the 11-3 win against Slippery Rock.\nVolleyball team sweeps tournament\nSunday, the IU Men's Club Volleyball team dominated an eight-team tournament at Illinois.\nThe team rolled through its four-team pool with wins against Purdue (15-25, 25-20, 15-9), St. Louis (25-23, 25-21) and Northern Illinois (19-25, 25-22, 15-7).\nLed by freshman J.T. Gripe, the Hoosiers marched through the championship bracket as the top seed with wins against Scott College and St. Louis for a second time, earning a trip to the finals.\nIn the championship game, the Hoosiers swept the Illinois alumni team in consecutive sets 25-18, 29-27. \nNext week IU travels to Wisconsin Whitewater for the Midwest Championships, where it enters as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest club rankings.
