Lin Loring, in his 24th season as the women's tennis coach, can add another award to his list of accomplishments. Loring has been selected as 2001 recipient of the Bill Orwig Medal by the IU Alumni Association.\nThis award, established by the Alumni Association, honoring Bill Orwig -- IU's athletics director from 1961-75 -- recognizes a non-alumnus for unique and significant contributions to IU's athletic program. \nLoring has had the most wins as a coach in Division I women's tennis with 597 career victories in 23-plus seasons at IU and four years at UC Santa Barbara. During his tenure, IU teams have won 15 Big Ten titles, made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and captured the AIAW national title in 1982. Loring has coached 22 ITA All-Americans and has been named Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year at the national level twice. \nEarlier this year, Loring received the Rolex/ITA Meritorious Service Award, honoring a coach who has made extraordinary contributions to collegiate tennis.\nThe Orwig medal will be presented at the Cream & Crimson Alumni Weekend June 6 at the alumni center.
