One of football coach Cam Cameron's 22 recruits was arrested Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated. \nWillie L. Northern, 21, a resident of 1101 N. Fee Lane, was booked into Monroe County Correctional Center at 12:17 a.m. Saturday. He was released on $500 cash bond and $1,000 surety.\nNorthern would not comment on the arrest. \nHe has been suspended from the team, said to team spokesman Todd Starowitz. Because of the suspension, Northern will not participate in spring practice, which begins March 21.\n"He has been suspended and will remain suspended until the legal system runs its course," Starowitz said.\nNorthern enrolled at IU in January after attending the City College of San Francisco, where he played defensive back. \nThe 6-foot-1, 195-pound Quincy, Fla., native helped lead CCSF to the 2000 California Community College state championship and a 12-0 record. Northern earned All-Golden Gate Conference honors and was listed as the third-rated junior college defensive back in the country, according to SuperPrep. Northern transferred to CCSF after spending his freshman year as a wide receiver at Auburn. \nNorthern was a 1998 SuperPrep All-America selection and was rated as the top high school receiver in Florida. He was also listed as the sixth-best wide receiver in the country by SuperPrep. Northern played safety at Shanks High School, where he recorded 70 tackles and five interceptions.
