Hoosiers ready for second race

The crew team might have something going against it this weekend at the Kansas Invite in Lawrence, Kan.\nOf the six teams that will travel to the contest, only Massachusetts and IU didn't make the trip to Austin, Texas, for the March 16 and 17 Longhorn Invitational. The other four teams at the invitational tournament will be Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa and Tulsa. \nInstead of trekking to Texas, IU opened its season last weekend with two victories against Louisville, winning both the varsity A race and the novice contest.\nUMass probably didn't need the practice -- the Minutemen have won five consecutive Atlantic-10 championships and lead the invite field this weekend. \nKansas opened its season with wins in four of the seven events at the Longhorn Invitational. Kansas also traveled to Texas and boasts an experienced roster. The invite will also mark the Jayhawks' first home race of the season. \nKansas State won two varsity events at the Longhorn Invitational. Big Ten foe Iowa might have shown the most promise in Austin. The Hawkeyes won every varsity event they entered, while the novice boats placed within the top three spots throughout the contest. \nTulsa won two of three events at the Longhorn Invitational against Southern Methodist and took six of eight races from the Mustangs last weekend. \nThe Hoosiers were forced to compete in 15-20 mph winds last weekend and a wind chill hovering around 20 degrees.
