Hoosiers win 2, lose 1 in series

IU started off a three-game weekend series under the lights Friday night at Missouri. \nThe Hoosiers held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Missouri scored two in the second to make the score 3-2 at the half. IU scored three goals in the third to extend their lead to 6-4 at the end of three. The two teams matched goals in the fourth quarter to make the final tally 8-6 in favor of the Hoosiers.\nIU controlled the ball and the flow of the game. The Hoosiers scored two man up goals and fired 41 shots during the game. Senior Mike Dodge made 12 saves in net for the Hoosiers. Freshman attackman Jon Hatton led the way for the IU offense with four goals. Senior attackman Steve Harris scored two goals and junior attackman Dave Fingerhut and freshman midfielder Casey Turner scored one goal each.\nSaturday, IU ran all over Michigan State. The Hoosiers led 6-0 after three quarters, when head coach Vic Bowers put in the reserves to close the game.\nThe Hoosiers dominated every aspect of the game, scoring two goals in each of the first three periods. MSU scored two in the fourth. The IU offense fired off 31 shots and won 7-of-10 face-offs.\nDodge made 11 saves in three quarters to shut out the Spartans before getting the rest of the afternoon off. Sophomore Willy Knight and freshman Jeff Yu combined to finish off the fourth quarter for the Hoosiers. The defense -- led by defensemen senior Louie Gramer, juniors Tom Fell and Matt Wilner and longstick midfielders junior Brian Longly, an IDS columnist, and freshman Matt Wolf -- shut down the Michigan State offense. \nHatton led the way for IU with three goals. \nPlaying their third game in three days, the Hoosiers lost their second game of the season to Washington University 12-8, resulting in with an overall record of 5-2, 2-1 in conference.\nThe Bears raced to an early lead before the Hoosiers recovered to close the gap to 4-3 after one period. The teams traded goals in the second, resulting in a 6-5 halftime score. In the third quarter, Washington extended its lead to 8-6. The Hoosier rally late in the game was not enough.\nSenior midfielder Greg Nocito and Hatton led the Hoosier offense with two goals each.
