New IUSA execs plan policies

IU Student Association ready to make transition

The IU Student Association's executive officers are gearing up to take office April 19. The administration has been working with the new executives to ensure a smooth transition, said senior Steven Bierly, current treasurer. \nThe incoming executives said the transition efforts have been helpful.\n"The conversations we have had with the current executives have been very helpful, and they have offered a great deal of tips and advice in working with members of the administration, other student groups, and the presidents of the regional campuses," said junior Jake Oakman, president-elect.\nWhile shadowing respective officials, new executive officers have started learning policy, attending meetings and developing ideas, said sophomore Jeff Wuslich, vice president of administration-elect. The incoming crew will begin practical training April 1 and start by helping the current administration with any remaining business.\n"I've been working on the clocks on campus proposal. We're about one meeting away from passing a proposal that will provide more clocks that chime on the hour," Bierly said. \nThe new administration plans to continue development of a 24-hour campus dining option, turn signals for Tenth Street stoplights and an innovative design for basketball seating, said senior Meredith Suffron, IUSA president. \n"I know that each of the old executives is planning to personally work on these issues until we leave campus, but having the support and follow-through from the new administration would be very beneficial to all students," Suffron said.\nIn addition to tying up loose ends, the new administration has processed an agenda of its own; an agenda that seeks to accommodate several student concerns.\n"We hope to increase the accessibility of campus ATMs, discuss issues involving tailgating and work on the possibility of a campus-wide bash," Wuslich said. \nThe administration has not yet hired the directors who will run many of IUSA's programs, and is accepting applications until March 30.\n"Our first priority is to begin communicating with other student groups. We have already planned meetings with INPIRG, and I have spoken with Ken Minami, (Residence Halls Association) president-elect. We believe it is important to extend the hand of IUSA to the students," Oakman said. "I am very excited for the upcoming year and believe that we have assembled a quality administration that will make a positive impact on Indiana University"
