The women's swimming and diving team capped off an impressive season with its highest finish at the NCAA Championships since 1981. The Hoosiers scored 90 points to grab 13th place at the meet, which kicked off Thursday and concluded Saturday.\nGeorgia won the meet's final event to win the meet with 389 points. Stanford finished second and Texas finished third. Penn State was the only Big Ten school to finish better than the Hoosiers. The Nittany Lions claimed 11th place.\n"This was almost perfect," coach Dorsey Tierney said. "If I have another weekend like this in my coaching career, I don't know what I'm going to do. It was a fitting end to a great year."\nTierney gave credit to all 24 swimmers, but the Hoosiers sent eight athletes to the meet.\nIU finished third in the Big Ten Championships last month, behind Michigan and Penn State.\nThe Hoosiers broke two school records on the final day of competition in the same event. The 400-yard freestyle team of senior Jenn Cristy, junior Susan Woessner and sophomores Anne Williams and Tina Gretlund raced to a preliminary time of 3:21.73, then swam to a time of 3:20.50 in the finals, finishing 10th. \n"This was my final dance," said Cristy, who swam the final leg. "When it comes to the relay, I put everything out on the line."\nThe 400 relay time wasn't the only record-setting mark.\nWoessner set a school record in the 200 backstroke, finishing 18th. \nCristy finished 13th in the 100 freestyle, her highest finish. Gretlund placed 29th in the 200 butterfly and freshman Sarah Fiden finished 21st in the 1,650 freestyle. Sophomore Mamie Goodson finished 20th in the platform diving. \nWhile the women swimmers concluded their season during spring break, the women's and men's diving teams converged at Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center March 9 and 10 for the zone diving championships. There are seven zones across the country. IU played host to 20 teams in the two-day event. \nSenior Tom Davidson of the men's team qualified for the NCAA Championships by winning the 1-meter competition. Davidson finished third in the 3-meter finals. Sophomore Adam Hazes finished ninth on the 1-meter and freshman Marc Carlton placed 13th on the 1-meter. Carlton also finished fifth on the tower diving competition.\nSenior Erin Quinn of the women's team also qualified for the NCAA Championships.
