With lone hit, IU beats Butler

Game-winning run scored in bottom of first on error by opponents

Saturday against Butler at the Southern Illinois tournament, IU mustered only one hit. \nBut because of Alison Cooke's strong outing, the Hoosiers were able to beat the Bulldogs, 1-0. Cooke, a junior, pitched another complete game and surrendered three hits.\nJunior shortstop Lisa Mattke scored the lone Hoosier run in the bottom of the first inning off a Butler error. Cooke, who upped her record to 3-4, took care of the rest.\nLater Saturday, the Hoosiers (5-7) won their third straight game, as they defeated Northern Illinois 4-3 in 12 innings. Senior Jenny Smith picked up her first win of the season for the Hoosiers.\nIU turned in a strong game offensively, as several players helped contribute to the team's four runs. Mattke and junior outfielder Moe Bullock turned in multiple-hit games for the Hoosiers, as the one-two hitters went 4-for-8 between them. Bullock also drove in a run. Freshman first baseman Heather Stillians scored two runs.\nResults for the Hoosiers' final two games of the tournament, against Bradley and Southern Illinois were unavailable at press time.
