IU's offense helped them win; then, the Hoosier bats fell silent. \nThe softball team split a doubleheader with Michigan State Friday before falling to Michigan in the second weekend of the Big Ten season.\nBoth IU losses were shutouts, and the Hoosiers managed only six hits in the two defeats.\nThe weekend began with a promising look as IU bounced back from a 1-0 hold in the opener against the Spartans to win, 4-3. Freshman Dawn Ramynke and sophomore Stormy Hanson both went 2-for-3 to lead the Hoosier attack. Ramynke smacked a home run in the second inning to pull the Hoosiers even, 1-1. IU tacked on three runs, one in the third and two in the fourth. MSU scored in the sixth to pull within a run, but junior pitcher Alison Cooke kept the Spartans from making any more noise, as she struck out six and tossed her 17th complete game of the season. \nAfter fighting back to win the first game with clutch offense, IU (12-23, 2-5 Big Ten) didn't muster much offense in the nightcap, as junior Keri DeJong shut out the Hoosiers, 8-0. IU loaded the bases on three walks in the sixth but failed to score. \nMSU (14-24, 1-3) knocked 14 hits and was led by senior Shealee Dunavan, who went 4-for-5. Six different players got hits for the Spartans. \nDeJong held IU to two hits. One of the hits came from Hanson, who extended her hitting streak to 12 games. \nCooke (9-14) returned to the mound Saturday and threw her 18th complete game of the season, but IU went its second consecutive game without scoring a run as Michigan escaped with a 2-0 victory. \nMichigan (20-11, 5-0) scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning. Two IU errors and a hit batsman put runners on for Michigan. Junior Kelsey Kollen ripped a single down the left-field line for the two Wolverine runs. \nMichigan's Marissa Young matched Cooke pitch for pitch, striking out 11 Hoosiers and recording her 11th win of the season. \n"It came down to a hit batter and two errors, and we lose," IU coach Diane Stephenson said. "We didn't get the hit that we needed today."\nHanson failed to get a hit, snapping her 12-game hitting streak. IU had four hits.
