Women's track victorious\nThe IU women's track team emerged victorious from its home dual meet this past weekend, besting both Ohio State and Southern Illinois at the Henry Gladstone Fieldhouse. The Hoosiers posted a total of 130 points during the meet compared to 120 for Ohio State and 54 for Southern Illinois. \nTwo Hoosiers posted NCAA provisional marks during the meet. Junior Kelley McKinney went for 18.31m in the 20-pound weight throw, and junior Danielle Carruthers matched her nation-best time of 8.28 seconds in the 60m hurdles. \nNext up for the team is the Indiana Relays Feb. 1 and 2 in Bloomington.\nMen's tennis wins season opener\nThe IU men's tennis team started the 2002 season off on the right foot with victories over Toledo 7-0 and Bowling Green 6-1 Saturday.\nAgainst Toledo, all the matches had positive results for IU. Four of the singles matches resulted in straight set victories for the Hoosiers. Freshman Tommy Bagnato stepped in for injured senior Rahman Smiley and won his singles match 6-1, 6-2. Smiley sat out with a sore shoulder after participating in doubles earlier in the morning. \nBut Smiley was back for the afternoon tilt against Bowling Green. Smiley won both his doubles match with freshman Ryan Recht 8-3 and his singles match against Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo 6-7(1), 6-1, and 6-3. The matchup with Bowling Green yielded three straight set victories for IU in the singles matches. \nIU returns to action Jan. 24 when the team travels to the University of Louisville to take on the Cardinals. \nBure returns from broken hand\nSUNRISE, Fla. -- Pavel Bure, the Florida Panthers' leading scorer, returned Monday against the Montreal Canadiens after missing five games with a broken left hand.\nThe Panthers were 1-4 without their star forward, scoring just six goals and being shut out twice.\nBure, who has 13 goals and 18 assists, played wearing a hard protective plastic cast.\nBure was injured after being struck by a stick against Dallas Jan. 9. He had nine of Florida's 18 shots in a 3-2 loss that night.\nFor the first time since Oct. 16, the Panthers had both Bure brothers in the lineup. Valeri Bure missed 37 games with a left knee injury before being activated Jan. 11 against Ottawa.
