The IU women's tennis team split its two matches over the weekend against Big Ten foes at home. The team toppled Penn State by a score of 5-2 but fell to Ohio State 4-3 in a closely contested match. The weekend left IU with a 4-4 record in conference and a 15-7 mark overall.\nAgainst Penn State on Saturday, the team took four of the six singles matches and two of the three double matches. Junior Karie Schlukebir and sophomore Linda Tran teamed up for one of the doubles victories, and both won their singles matches as well, as did Martina Grimm. \n"We needed this win to be ready for Ohio State," coach Lin Loring said in a press release. \nOhio State came to Bloomington with a 17-4 overall record, 5-2 in conference, and was ranked 47th in the nation. The Hoosiers gave the Buckeyes a fight, with the match coming down to the last contest of the day, the No. 6 singles contest between Grimm and Ohio State's Claudia Castro. Castro ended up winning the match in the third set by a score of 7-5, giving the Buckeyes the victory. \n"This has been really frustrating," Loring said in a press release. "This is the third Big Ten match that we have lost, in basketball terms, by a shot at the buzzer. We are about six points away from being 7-1 -- instead we're 4-4. Hopefully we can get one of these to go our way."\nTran again won both of her singles and doubles matches on Sunday, as the team took all three doubles matches but only claimed two singles.
