For the second straight week, IU played a tournament in Ohio and finished tied for sixth. And for the second straight week, freshman Jeff Overton posted a new career best in the final round of play.\nThe site of this week's events was the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. IU ended the 54-hole event with a final score of 886 (296-296-294) to tie with Eastern Kentucky for sixth place.\nBut the big story for the Hoosiers was the play of Overton. Playing through rain-drenched conditions, Overton shot a six-under par 66 for one of the best scores in IU history. \nThe last Hoosier player to shoot a one-round 66 was Tim Koressel at the Northern Invitational in 1982. The IU record for a single round score is 65, a feat that has been accomplished six times. Brent Landry was the last player to shoot 65, doing so at the Xavier Intercollegiate in 1999.\nOverton ended the tournament with a four-under par score of 212 (76-70-66). Eric Phillips of Miami (Ohio) won the tournament with a five-under par 211.\n"Jeff started his first eight holes of the tournament at six-over," coach Mike Mayer said. "To shoot four-under from that point and a 66 in conditions like today just shows the potential and talent he has. His confidence will continue to grow with that spectacular round."\nOverton was not the only freshman that sparked the Hoosiers. Heath Peters also played his way into a top-ten finish with a total of 218 (72-75-71). Peters' played his final round at one-under par, tied a career best for a single-round. Peters set a new personal record for a three-round tournament score.\n"Two freshmen leading the way shows that the future looks good for this team and program," Mayer said.\nWhile two freshmen put together top-ten rounds, Mayer felt that the rest of the team was not able to take advantage of the scoring opportunities they had.\n"It was a good tournament, but could have been a really good tournament," Mayer said. "The last two rounds we had some guys that didn't finish up the way they could have."\nFreshman Rob Ockenfuss finished out the tournament with a 79 for a three round total of 229 (74-76-79) to place in a tie for 52nd. Junior Aldo Jordan finished in a tie for 58th with a tournament total of 230 (77-75-78). Junior Ben Davidson rounded out the Hoosier lineup with a total of 233 (74-76-83) to finish in a tie for 70th.\nToledo won the team title by edging out Penn State in a one-hole playoff.\nThe Hoosiers will travel to East Lansing, Mich. next weekend to take part in the Fossum Invitational.
