Spring finale played tonight

Cream and Crimson scrimmage follows women's Little 500 race

Fourteen down, one more to go. \nThe IU football team concludes its spring practice schedule with the Cream and Crimson Scrimmage 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium after the women's Little 500. The scrimmage marks the 15th and final practice in the spring, and this will be the last time new Head coach Gerry DiNardo and his staff get to look at their inherited team until camp in the summer. \nThe format of the game will be a full-contact matchup with the first team (Crimson) battling the second team (Cream). Some players will switch teams during the scrimmage so line-ups may become skewed during the contest. The starting lineup for the Crimson squad is highlighted by senior quarterbacks Gibran Hamdan and Tommy Jones. \nThe two seniors are expected to compete for the starting position this fall as well as playing time during Friday's scrimmage. Taking the snaps for the Cream squad will be freshman Mike Donnelly. Donnelly is the only quarterback listed on the Cream roster and is expected to take all of the snaps for the team. \nSophomore Patrick Thompson did work with the quarterbacks and even took some snaps during a scrimmage this spring. He will take the field as a wide receiver Friday evening. Also highlighting the Cream roster is last season's starting fullback, senior Jeremi Johnson.\nDuring the spring season, DiNardo and his staff have been implementing new systems to the IU football program, including getting away from the option, which the team ran last year with Antwaan Randle El and Levron Williams, to the pass-heavy West Coast offense. \n"The option is very different, so we are asking our players to do a lot of new things," DiNardo said. "They have really bought into the system, and everyone here has been very positive about the changes."\nDiNardo also said conditioning will come into play, as he noted at the beginning of spring that his Hoosiers need to get back into shape. \n"Hopefully we have a good clean scrimmage with no penalties and we look sharp," DiNardo said. "Hopefully it will be an entertaining game for the crowd."\nAdmission to the game is free, and the men's basketball team will be signing autographs prior to the game beginning at 6 p.m., depending on the weather. Jared Jeffries will not be in attendance at the signing.
