Diver named as All-American

Senior diver Tom Davidson earned 20 points for the Hoosiers at this weekend's NCAA Championships, placing IU 26th in the nation.\nDavidson finished 3rd in the one-meter dive and 13th in the 3-meter competition to score all IU's points in the national competition. Davidson earned All-American honors for his performance.\nSenior Don Gold also competed at the championships and finished 36th in the 100-yard freestyle in 44.53 seconds. Gold took 31st in the 50-yard freestyle and 36th in the 200-yard freestyle.\nSoftball games postponed\nbecause of cold temperatures\nWith temperatures in the mid-20s, the softball team postponed Sunday's doubleheader with in-state rival Ball State. The two teams will meet later this spring at Ball State April 25 for a doubleheader. \nThe Hoosiers (10-17) will return to action with a doubleheader 4 p.m. Tuesday in Louisville. Freezing temperatures and a light snowfall also forced the cancellation of Sunday's baseball game between IU and Penn State.\nCrew solid in season opener\nDespite less than favorable weather conditions, women's crew captured two victories against Louisville Saturday. The varsity eight A boat took first in 7 minutes, 5.9 seconds, dominating the last 1000 meter event. The novice eight boat won in 7:56.3. \nWinds of 15-20 miles per hour and a wind chill of 16-20 degrees prevented the four boats from racing. \n"With conditions like this, you equate it to some other sport," coach Mark Wilson said. "Think about playing basketball on an ice hockey rink. Nobody wants to row under these conditions, but anytime you win by more than two or three seconds, that's good."\nThe varsity eight A beat out Louisville by 6.2 seconds. \n"I expected to win. I didn't tell them that, but I'm going to expect them to win most races. That's the way we have to approach things," Wilson said. "Our boat started to make a move at around the 1000m mark, which is what we want to do. We want to be able to move from the 1000 to the 1500 and keep going to the 2000. They did a nice job."\nWater polo continues to win\nwith defeat of Slippery Rock\nThe water polo team continued its dominance in the CWPA conference trouncing Slippery Rock 13-2 in the first game of the CWPA weekend Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. \nSophomore Sarah Butler, senior Kelly McKay, and junior Louanne Hovater paced the Hoosiers with two goals apiece.
