Associated Press reports that IU offers coaching job to Davis

Indiana has offered interim coach Mike Davis the permanent position as basketball coach, a source close to the university said Wednesday. \nDavis and university representatives were negotiating details of his contract Wednesday, said the source, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. \nThe university scheduled a 1:30 p.m. news conference at Assembly Hall to discuss its coaching vacancy. \nIndianapolis radio station WNDE, citing unidentified university sources, reported that Davis would be offered a four-year contract. The Indianapolis Star also reported Davis was scheduled to meet Wednesday with a university vice president. \nDavis spent the morning at the basketball arena but would not answer questions from an AP reporter. \nDavis, a former assistant who moved up after Bob Knight was fired in September, went 21-13 and took the Hoosiers into the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the first round to Kent State. \nA committee that is charged with picking a permanent coach met for more than two hours Monday, and vice president Terry Clapacs said at that time, ``We are not at the end of our deliberations.'' \nHowever, the panel, which consists of three members of Indiana's Board of Trustees, three university administrators and the incoming athletic director, did not meet in full Tuesday and did not schedule any official meeting after that. \nClapacs and university President Myles Brand, both committee members, refused to comment Tuesday.
