Hoosiers finish 5-2 in Florida during break

The baseball team warmed up for the upcoming Big Ten regular season getting its offense and defense running smoothly by competing in the Homestead Challenge in Florida. \nThe Hoosiers played seven games in eight days during spring break, going 5-2 with wins coming against Manhattan, Bowling Green, St. Francis of New York, Quinnipiac and a 24-2 defeat of Drexel in the finale. \nThe 24 runs scored against Drexel were the most on the season and the most since a 30-13 win against IU-Southeast April 30, 1997. It's also the largest margin of victory since a 24-0 win against Lehman College March 15, 1987, according to the IU athletics Web site. \nThe IU offense compiled 63 runs, while the pitching and defense allowed 26 runs in the seven games. The Hoosiers recorded their first lost to Seton Hall in the third game of the week and then were defeated for the second time two days later by C.W. Post, a branch of Long Island University.\nRecording wins for IU were junior Brad Edwards, freshman Adam Peeg and seniors Quinn Moore and Nick Otte who had two wins on the trip. Senior Blake St. Clair and junior Nick Evans produced the majority of the offense, bumping their averages to above .400.\nThe Hoosiers have two non-conference home games Tuesday and Wednesday before starting the Big Ten Regular season with a four-game series with Penn State beginning Friday at Sembower Field.
