DiNardo ready for next game

After reviewing game tape from the weekend, coach Gerry DiNardo said in his weekly press conference he was happy with the better play from his team. He said he was pleased the team was able to do the things well that they had emphasized in practice this week, including stronger effort from the offensive line.\n

Injury Report

\nThe Hoosiers may possibly lose two key players from the defense this week. Freshman Kyle Killion and senior Derek Barnett both went down against Kentucky. Barnett injured his ankle and will not practice this week. His future status is still uncertain. Killion hurt his knee and is awaiting the results. \nSenior Tommy Jones was cleared to practice this week after sustaining a concussion against Utah. He will be available to back-up senior Gibran Hamdan if he stays healthy.\n"Now, that type of injury it is possible that you can go out there and run around and have a recurring headache and fogginess," DiNardo said. "That has happened (in the past). It has happened to some of our guys this year. But he is cleared to practice."\nSenior Brian Lewis also made his return to practice since hurting his shoulder in the opening week against William & Mary. The doctors have cleared him to play, and DiNardo said the deciding factor will be Lewis.\n

Hamdan to Start Again

\nHamdan will start again this week after replacing Jones. DiNardo said he was pleased with Hamdan in field presence and command of the offense. But the turnovers need to be eliminated. \nHamdan knows this and said watching game film of Kentucky will help him prepare for Central Michigan.\n"It's different this week in that I'm coming off a game where I started, I played, I made some mistakes and well-documented mistakes at that," Hamdan said. "That's something where you watch the film the next day, you learn about them and as a quarterback you just have to move on to the next game, and that's what I'm focusing on. I've learned from what I did at Kentucky -- the good things I did and the things that I did that weren't so good."\n

Washington Ready for Next Game

\nFreshman Yamar Washington put in the Hoosiers' best rushing effort of the season with 163 yards in only his second collegiate game. This comes just one season after severely injuring his ankle.\nWashington said his biggest adjustment was getting used to the speed of the college game. He is looking forward to playing Central Michigan because of their defensive style.\n"Their defense is like Kentucky, especially in the way they line up," Washington said. "It's good news playing the same type of scheme two weeks in a row."\nWashington said he doesn't know if that will spell another big week for him in the running game. He said they will have to wait and see if Central Michigan keys in on him. If that happens, look for a receiver to have a big game, Washington said.\n

Herana-Daze Jones Tops in League

\nSophomore linebacker Herana-Daze Jones is tearing up opposing offenses. He is leading the Big Ten in tackles with 13.3 tackles per game and 40 tackles total. Senior Kris Dielman is also first in the league with 7 tackles for losses.\n

Field Goals an Issue

\nLast Saturday against Kentucky, sophomore Bryan Robertson missed two field goals within 35 yards. He is only two of five for the year. \nDiNardo said he believes that it is a technique problem that Robertson will have to work out. He said Robertson has confidence as do the coaches.\nHamdan also said the players are confident in Robertson because they know he is a talented kicker. He also said Robertson shouldn't have to be in a situation where he has to make field goals.\n"I'll say that Bryan Robertson is a very talented kicker, and anyone who comes out to practice can see that," Hamdan said. "Kicking is a lot like quarterbacking that you need to get into a rhythm, and often times if you don't get in a rhythm you could get in trouble at that spot. A lot of times he shouldn't have to be kicking two field goals early in the game, we should be scoring touchdowns"
