Penn State came within 5:44 of breaking IU's 31 game winning streak in Big Ten play Friday night in University Park, Penn. But the No. 5 Hoosiers prevailed with a 1-0 double overtime victory over the No. 12 ranked Nittany Lions.\nThe victory was the Hoosiers' tenth straight victory over conference rival Penn State and extended IU's winning streak to 32 straight conference games. IU has now played two of its three conference road games, picking up wins over two other favorites to challenge the Hoosiers for the Big Ten regular season championship.\nOn a wet slippery field, IU (6-1-2, 2-0 Big Ten) slid by Penn State (5-4, 1-1) when sophomore midfielder Ned Grabavoy knocked a penalty kick into the bottom left corner of the goal at the 1.04:16 mark of the match. Penn State sophomore Kenji Treschuk was whistled for the foul in the box that led to Grabavoy's penalty kick opportunity. The goal was Grabavoy's first of the season and just the second of his career, making him third on the Hoosier squad with seven points on the season.\nThe victory did not come easy for the Hoosiers who played a man down the final 31 minutes of the match after senior sweeper Phil Presser was given a red card and ejected from the match. Presser received the red card in the middle of a post-foul tussle as he defended Grabavoy who had been taken down on a tackle by Penn State senior Brent Jacquette.\n"This was a great win under very difficult circumstances," Hoosier coach Jerry Yeagley said in a statement. "Playing a man down in tough weather and a tough environment, the guys really grew up tonight. I can't say enough about the defense. It was a typical Penn State versus Indiana game, a thriller."\nSophomore goalkeeper Jay Nolly picked up his first career Big Ten shutout with the win as he made one save in the match. With 5:08 to play, Nolly's save of Penn State sophomore Chad Severs kept the match scoreless. Penn State keeper, sophomore Ryan Moate was forced to make just two saves on the night.\nPenn State outshot the Hoosiers 10-9 in the match and also picked up 30 fouls to IU's 16. In a very physical match, the Hoosiers bench was given a yellow card along with the red card picked up by Presser. Four Penn State players each picked up individual yellow cards.\nThe Hoosiers will conclude their five game road trip Thursday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Indianapolis to take on Butler at 7:30 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium.
