Team looks to continue streak

The Hoosiers take to the pool this weekend with hopes of remaining undefeated. IU will host the Indiana Open Invitational, a three-day competition, this weekend beginning Friday at 9:30 a.m. The No. 13 ranked Hoosiers will host No. 19 Miami (Fla.), Tennessee, Arkansas, Clemson, Evansville, New Mexico, and Cincinnati in the swimming competition. \nIn the diving portion of the meet, the team will face off against the above mentioned teams as well as Kentucky. Last year, the team won the Invite with 1.321.5 points. Tennessee finished second with 991.5 points.\nThe last time the Hoosiers competed was on Nov. 9 when they defeated Northwestern. The squad beat the Wildcats by a score of 168-123. Junior Meghan Medendorp was selected Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for her performance against Northwestern. Medendorp was a quadruple winner in helping the Hoosiers defeat the Wildcats. She won the 50-meter freestyle, the 100-meter freestyle and was part of both the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter medley relays that won. \nThe team's freestyle distance swimmers have performed well all season and will look to continue their string of success at the Invite. In the 1000-meter free event the Hoosiers have finished 1-2-3 in three of the four events this season. Junior Sarah Fiden has won the 1000-meter free in all four events and her time of 9:59.65 ranks 14th in the nation to date. The last meet against Northwestern, the squad pulled off an impressive feat. IU swimmers went 1-2-3 in both the 500-meter and 1000-The Invite has two sessions for each day with the first starting at 9:30 a.m. and the second starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Complex located in the SRSC.
