The IU baseball team finally got its season underway Friday when they traveled to Florida, away from the wintry weather that plagued and ultimately canceled its previous two tournaments. But the trip was not entirely free from cancellation. IU's game against Holy Cross Sunday was postponed because of rain. IU did get in two games, both wins, Friday and Saturday.\nIU crushed Valparaiso 12-2 Saturday. The Hoosiers began their scoring binge in the 4th with an RBI single from Ryan Donley. An RBI double from Kevin Mahar plated two more for IU in the fifth, putting them up 4-1. The Hoosiers scored four more runs in the sixth and iced the game with a two-run homer by senior Vasili Spanos, his first of the season. \nJunior Adam Pegg picked up the win for the Hoosiers. The junior worked six innings, allowing just one run on two hits.\nIU opened its weekend in the Sunshine State with a extra-inning victory, beating Findlay 6-5, Friday. Spanos once again provided the offensive power with two RBI including the game winner knocking in junior David Hughes in the top of the eleventh inning to break the 5-5 tie. \nThe win went to senior Ryan Smith who pitched the last four innings, surrendering only one hit and striking out six Oilers. \nThe Hoosiers remain in Bradenton today to take on Boston College before heading back to Bloomington. The Eagles will battle with IU after gaining some major-league experience. Boston College took on the Boston Red Sox in exhibition last week, losing 9-6. The Eagles outhit the Red Sox 12-8 and put up four runs in the first inning, but RBI doubles by Shea Hillenbrand and Nomar Garciaparra sealed the victory for the major league club.\nThe Eagles stand at 0-4 in regular season play. They lost their first three games last weekend in South Carolina and fell to Purdue, 1-0, Saturday. Three of their four losses have been by one run or less. \nFirst pitch is set for 10:30 a.m. today.
